Indian standard at ITU: The following Radio Interface technologies (RITs) have been accepted by ITU, meeting IMT-2020 specifications:
- 3GPP 5G
- 5Gi
- DECT 5G
5Gi, a radio interface technology, is a 5G standard developed by India. It aims at improving 5G coverage in rural and remote areas. ITU approved the 5Gi standard and now the 3GPP has agreed to merge key features of 5Gi with its 5G standard. 5Gi standard uses Low Mobility Large Cell (LMLC) concept and enables extend the range of a base station. Inter-site distance is extended to 6 km from 1.7 km, thereby making the deployment cost-effective.
